SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- A water main break closed one lane of westbound Abernathy Road Monday night.

As of Tuesday morning a break in the 12 inch main in the northern shoulder was fixed, and Atlanta Watershed Management is working to backfill the damaged area in the northern westbound
...more lane, pour concrete on top of the
fill, and then plate the area.

Once this is complete that lane will be
reopened, sometime late Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Sandy Springs City communications director, there were home and business water disruptions last night.

Water
users should contact City of Atlanta Water for safe usage instructions (404) 658-6500.

Another daytime lane closure is expected when Atlanta
Watershed Management asphalt paves the concreted area.

That could be as
soon as Wednesday.

The break occurred in a mechanical joint that was recently
placed by City of Atlanta Watershed

WASHINGTON -- American Rivers, a national environmental advocacy group, has ranked the Chattahoochee River as the third-most endangered river in the United States.

The group released its Top 10 list Tuesday. An annual list has been released by the organization each year since
...more 1986.

The organization said it looked at issues from pollution to fracking to dams and dredging, but this year the spotlight is on issues that "have a direct impact on our clean water, public health, and wildlife."

The organization rated The Potomac River as the most endangered (flows through Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland and Washington , D.C.), followed by The Green River (the largest tributary of the Colorado River), and the Chattahoochee.

As for why the Chattahoochee ranked third, the organization said, "New dams and reservoirs threaten to dry up the river flow."

ROSWELL, Ga. -- Thrifty brides have a new resource in Roswell:  I Do and I'm Done.

It's the brainchild of Maria Walden-Sullivan, a local philanthropist who also owns the consignment boutique Vintage and Vogue.

I Do and I'm Done carries new, used and vintage dresses for a
...more fraction of what they'd cost regular retail.

"I think there's a huge need for dresses that have only been worn once or never at all," Sullivan said.

The dresses are either donated by local women or sold on consignment with the option of giving 40 percent of the selling prices to one of six local charities. "That's our focus, to get people more into giving back to the community and get into the philanthropic side of the business," Sullivan added.

Sullivan partners with local design students who update and revamp some of the older dresses.

I Do and I'm Done is located at 343 Park Square. The phone number is 678-218-3663.

ROSWELL, Ga. -- The rain did little to dampen spirits in Roswell Wednesday morning as residents came out in droves for a live broadcast of the 11Alive News Today morning show.

People from all walks of Roswell life -- from the first graders at Roswell North Elementary School to Mayor
...more Jere Wood himself -- stopped by the beautiful Historic Roswell Square Park to meet the 11Alive morning team and tell us what makes their city great.

The Roswell High School cheerleaders performed a special 11Alive-themed cheer, while restauranteur Sean McDonough stopped by to provide a taste of the signature menu item at his Roswell Tap restaurant: grits chips, which recently earned Jeff Foxworthy's seal of approval.

Jay Walter, a first grade teacher at Roswell North Elementary, had his hair cut into a Mohawk on live TV. The Mohawk fulfilled a promise to his students: if they logged 200 hours of math study, he would adopt the hairstyle. Douglas Bullman, co-founder and

ROSWELL, Ga. -- Canton Street in Roswell is such a good place to run a restaurant that Hicham Azhari owns three of them here.

"It's great; it's a great, great town," he said.

Azhari's Salt Factory Pub was featured on the Food Network last year, bringing national attention
...more to his Shepherd's Pie.

But it's the Prince Edward Island mussels that are the most popular dish.

The menu's designed to take diners around the world.

"People are courageous," said Azhari, who also own INC Street Food and Little Alley Steak. "They want to try new things and discover new flavors."

Across Canton Street, Roswell Provisions lets you sample the South of France.

It's a European-style market.

"We have over 75 different kinds of cheese and meats," said employee Crystal Mason. "We have a French pastry chef who makes our pastries every day. It's a hip local market."

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- Starting next week, the state Department of Transportation will enact a plan designed to make the morning drive on Ga. 400 smoother.

But Sandy Springs Police are concerned it may come at the expense of safety.

Starting May 14, southbound G. 400 between
...more Holcomb Bridge Road and the North Springs MARTA exit will open the shoulder of the road to traffic, making it an actual lane.

The "added lane" will only be open from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., Monday through Friday. DOT spokeswoman Jill Goldberg said that stretch of road is the highway's most congested area.

To allow for the new lanes, the DOT has created eight pull-off points throughout the stretch.

"We have built emergency pull-off points for vehicles that are disabled so that they can have a place to move their car instead of the shoulder," Goldberg said.

Sandy Springs Police Chief Terry Sult says the DOT is working closely with the department to make

ROSWELL, Ga. -- They're here to stay, so you might as well get used to them. According to wildlife officials, that's the unfortunate reality behind the populations of coyotes that have moved into the metro Atlanta area. They've attacked pets in Decatur and Roswell.

"We've got geese
...more that have been decimated by them, and I'm kind of worried once they're all gone what are they going to eat next," said Roswell resident Joe Feinberg. "I guess my dog was that choice."

Feinberg's dog Abby was attacked earlier this week, and survived with cuts all over her body. Don McGowan, a senior wildlife biologist at the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, said coyotes have been moving east from the Midwest for the last century.

"They're here to stay they've colonized pretty much the entire continent of North America," McGowan said. "They're in very urban areas like Chicago and New York City, because the food sources are easy to find."
