LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga -- I've always had respect for law enforcement officers. That's just the way my parents raised me. I've spent over 30 years of my career covering crime, reporting on the good things police do and sometimes the bad.

On Friday, I had an opportunity for the first time
...more to take a training course on the use of force. The Gwinnett County Police Department opened their training center doors for me to go through the same training every one of their officers goes through.

That training included simulations of scenarios where an officer has to make a split second decision whether or not to use force. I participated in two of those scenarios.

The first was a simulation video. Most of you gamers know what I'm talking about. Anyone who has ever used a driving simulator to get your drivers license also knows. It's very similar.

I have a gun. a replica of the Glock handguns police carry. It has the same feel, almost the same weight and

"In one game, I actually put them in the wrong position," said Doehrman. "The one that I thought was the better hitter I put at the three spot."

Not good for the team however their teachers love it.

ATLANTA -- Comet the terrier can keep up with just about any pup, even though he only has three legs. He doesn't need help running or jumping, but he does need help covering the costs of surgery.

...more broken leg.

The rescue shelter's founder Lynne Shriber said right away, her veterinarian told her Comet needed an amputation, but the shelter didn't have the money.

Shriber said her vet went ahead with the surgery anyway and told her she could pay him back when the money came in. Comet just had his stitches removed last week.

Even without physical therapy, it hasn't taken long for him to adjust to losing his front right leg. Shriber said Comet fell over a few times while going to the bathroom but quickly learned to go potty like a lady. He still bounds around like he has all four legs.

It's taken longer for the donations to come in to cover Comet's
