Circle City Classic to feature MEAC opponents

Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - The North Carolina Central-South Carolina
State football game has been rescheduled as the Circle City Classic on Oct. 6
at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Previously, the game between Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference members was
scheduled to be played...more at North Carolina Central.

This will be South Carolina State's third appearance in the Circle City
Classic.

The 63,000-seat Lucas Oil Stadium is the home of the Indianapolis Colts and
site of Super Bowl XLVI earlier this month.

Ga. lawmakers honor fallen soldiers with National Guard Day

ATLANTA -- The Georgia Legislature is honoring the 45 National Guard soldiers who have died in the wars in Iraq and

Afghanistan.

Members of the House rose for a moment of silence Wednesday before the day was named "National Guard Day" at the Capitol.

House Speaker...more David Ralston, flanked by commanders and soldiers from the National Guard, honored family members of the fallen soldiers, some of whom were in the gallery of the House chamber.

The names of the soldiers who have died were read out loud during the ceremony.

In the Senate, Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle recognized the sacrifice of the National Guard and their families. On hand was former state Sen. Jim Butterworth, now commander for the Georgia National Guard.

The Municipal Option Sales Tax is a 1-cent tax that applies to most goods purchased in the City of Atlanta. These funds allow visitors and business people who use the City’s water and sewer infrastructure but do not pay City water/sewer bills...more to help pay for upgrading and maintenance of the infrastructure. This is NOT a new tax; it is the reauthorization of an existing tax.

Google, Inc. to release electronic GPS data glasses in 2013

ATLANTA, Ga. -- This holiday season might see a few gifts steer toward sunglasses which will electronically display useful travel information on their lens much like your cellular phone does today.

Google, Inc. is set to release sun glasses no earlier than December designed to allow...more you to view street maps, location hot spots and images much like a pilot's heads up display out his window.

The Google HUD glasses are rumored to cost between $250 and $500, and will have one lens established for sorting GPS data through a cell phone carrier's network as you drive.

No word from the phone carriers as to the availability.

Technologist William Blake of Dunwoody loves the idea, "It might just save a few lives as drivers keep their eyes on the road instead of looking over for a few seconds at their car mounted GPS screen."

The computer glasses will operate through the Android OS, which is a tie in with Google and their smart phone.

Robby Kukler, Steve Simon and Kris Reinhard, the three partners behind Fifth Group Restaurants, will open a new seafood restaurant called Lure on Crescent Avenue in Midtown in early July of this year. The restaurant is housed in the space where Vickery’s Crescent Avenue Bar & Grill...more was formerly located.

            Lure’s Midtown location holds a special place in the hearts of the restaurant’s partners. Fifth Group Restaurants’ history began in Midtown with the opening of South City Kitchen on Crescent Avenue 19 years ago, and the company will own the property where Lure stands. Publix Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon coming in March!

ATLANTA (WXIA) - The 2012 edition of the Publix Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon kicks off Sunday, March 18, at 7 a.m. The race course will take some 18,000 runners through parts of Atlanta and Decatur, passing a number of Metro area landmarks.

The 26.2 mile course will pass through...more the Sweet Auburn District, Inman Park, Decatur, Druid Hills, Virginia Highland and Midtown. The events will include 19 hydration stations with water and Gatorade for runners.

The weekend will also feature the Cuties Luckie 5K and Kids Fun Run on Saturday, March 17. Saturday's races will kick off at 8 a.m. from Centennial Olympic Park, and run through the Luckie Marietta District in Downtown Atlanta.

Starting the weekend is the Publix Georgia Marathon Health & Fitness Expo, being held at the Georgia World Congress Center on Friday and Saturday, March 16 and 17.

Before March 14, fees for the Publix Georgia Marathon are $115, and $95 for the Half Marathon. Entries

Rose returns, Bulls down Hawks

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Derrick Rose returned from a five-game absence and scored 23 points to go with six assists and five rebounds as the Chicago Bulls held off the Atlanta Hawks, 90-79.

Braves single game tickets go on sale next week

ATLANTA -- Single game tickets for the Atlanta Braves aren't scheduled to go on sale until March 5, but fans who preregister online can get a head start.

Presale tickets go on sale next Thursday, March 1 for those who preregister by Tuesday, Feb. 28 at...more braves.com/presale.

Season tickets holders can get their tickets even sooner, starting this Friday, Feb. 24.

Everyone else can begin buying tickets Monday, March 5.

The Braves home opener is scheduled for April 13 against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The discount bus carrier will begin daily service from Atlanta to Athens on Feb. 29.

Daily service from Atlanta to New Orleans begins April 2.

DOWNTOWN | Abortion debate flares in Ga. legislature

ATLANTA -- As a Republican lawmaker seeks to tighten rules on when a woman can get an abortion, a Democratic lawmaker is protesting the move by introducing a bill limiting vasectomies.

There are significant hurdles for either bill passing this year, but they illustrate the divide over...more the contentious issue.

Legislation by Republican Rep. Doug McKillip would add restrictions on abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. McKillip said that's the point when a fetus feels pain.

Women can get abortions in Georgia during their first and second trimesters of pregnancy. Abortions in the third trimester are limited to cases where a pregnancy threatens a mother's life or health.

Democratic Rep. Yasmin Neal said Tuesday she opposes the Republican bill and plans to introduce legislation that would similarly restrict vasectomies for men.

Legally blind friends find missing iPhone when no one else would help

ATLANTA (WXIA) -- This is a story of legally blind woman helping her blind friend find his iPhone when a cab company and police either couldn't or wouldn't help them.

It's a story of the blind leading the blind...literally.

"It's a palm computer that happens to have a radio...more in it, so it's really my computer," Vincent Martin told 11Alive News on Monday.

That's how he describes his iphone that's specially set up to listen and talk to him. It's his lifeline.

Last Friday morning that lifeline vanished.

The former paralympic athlete took a bus to drop off his guide dog, Karson, for some medical tests.

Because he couldn't ride the bus alone, he took a Checker Cab back to the Georgia Tech campus, where he's a grad student in computer science.

Then he panicked.

"Oh, my phone's in the cab," he remembered thinking only a few minutes after the taxi left.
