AUSTELL, Ga. -- Six Flags has teamed up with Kroger to sell discounted tickets to the two parks in Georgia.
Kroger customers can now purchase one-day admission tickets to both Six Flags Over Georgia and Six Flags White Water at participating supermarkets in Georgia, eastern Tennessee,

"We are excited to welcome Kroger as a valued partner," Melinda Ashcraft, president of Six Flags Atlanta Properties, said in a statement. "Kroger shoppers, our guests and their families now have more opportunities to save on an entire day of thrills, fun and excitement at our parks."
Tickets from Kroger cost $39.99 plus tax for Six Flags Over Georgia and $31.99 plus tax for Six Flags White Water.

POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. -- A Powder Springs woman has won a big prize from the Georgia Lottery.
Tara Brown is one of two players to win $195,480 from the Apr. 14 Fantasy 5 drawing. She bought her ticket at Quik Thrift on Brownsville Road; the second lucky ticket was bought in

Winning numbers were 13-20-23-29-31.
Brown's ticket was actually a free ticket -- she received it for matching two of five winning numbers from an earlier drawing. She claimed her prize Monday at Georgia Lottery headquarters in downtown Atlanta.

AUSTELL, Ga. -- A 38-year-old man was hit and killed by a car in Austell Friday evening.
Cobb County Police said Arthur Horne of Marietta was trying to cross Austell Road near Hicks Road just after 6 p.m. when he walked into the path of a car.
Horne was not crossing the street in a
...more crosswalk, according to Cobb County Police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce. Investigators do not know whether he intentionally stepped in front of the car.
Horne was pronounced dead at WellStar South Cobb Hospital. The driver who hit him was identified as 22-year-old Claudia Hopkins of Austell. Pierce said police do not expect to charge Hopkins.

AUSTELL, Ga. -- Cobb County officials have cut the ribbon on the new and improved Austell Senior Center.
The original senior center was destroyed during the devastating 2009 floods that swept through west Cobb and other parts of metro Atlanta. Officials decided to move the new center to

The new 5,500 square [foot] facility garnered Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification from the U.S. Green Building Council due to many energy saving components in the design. Highlights include: a high efficiency HVAC system, high efficiency light fixtures and a 46 percent reduction in electrical costs and 28 percent reduction in water usage to comparable buildings.

POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. -- The quarterly Cobb County Police Department PENS (Police Email Notification System) meeting will be held Tuesday, Apr. 24 at 7 p.m.

AUSTELL, Ga. (WXIA) -- Police said minor injuries were reported when a tractor-trailer couldn't clear the railroad tracks fast enough to avoid an oncoming Amtrak train Friday morning.

The accident happened in Downtown Austell near the intersection of Spring Street and Veterans

Amtrak Train number 19, the Crescent, originated in New York City on Thursday. It was moving at a slow rate of speed when it hit the trailer.

Amtrak officials said there were no injuries reported to any of the crew or passengers on board the train. Officials said they expect the train to continue on its way to New Orleans once the accident has been cleared away.

AUSTELL, Ga. -- Cobb County Police are investigating an accident that left one woman dead and another injured.
The wreck happened at around 2:30 p.m. Monday on Austell-Powder Springs Road near Moore Street in Austell.
Police said 64-year-old Sylvia Coleman was driving south on
...more Austell-Powder Springs Road when a Dodge Spirit crossed the double-yellow lines and slammed into her.
Coleman was taken to Atlanta Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Nissan was identified as 42-year-old Adriane Coleman. The two women were not related, according to Cobb Police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce.
Adriane Coleman passed away from injuries she suffered in the crash.

AUSTELL, Ga. -- Cobb County Police continue to investigate a crash that claimed the life of an Austell woman.
Patsy White, 54, passed away at WellStar South Cobb Hospital on Mar. 28, two days after being involved in a crash on Flint Hill Road near Dogwood Hills Court in Austell.

...more said the accident happened shortly before 10 a.m. on Mar. 26. They say 86-year-old Myrtis Angelette of Austell tried to turn her Lincoln Town Car into a driveway; she turned in front of a Dodge Neon driven by 64-year-old Fayenell Engrisch of Mableton.
Engrisch could not avoid hitting Angelette's car, according to police. White was a passenger in Engrisch's car.
Angelette was cited with failure to yield while making a left turn.

ATLANTA -- An Austell woman will now be very wealthy for the rest of her life.
Vilmer Meyer won $250,000 a year for 30 years after taking home the top prize in the Georgia Lottery's Decades of Dollars instant game.

The 61-year-old winner said she usually watches the televised drawing, but fell asleep before seeing her winning numbers. She learned the good news by calling the Player Information Hot Line the next day.

Meyer worked for 36 years as a surgery scheduler at a local hospital. She has two children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

AUSTELL, Ga. -- Six Flags Over Georgia will open its gates for the 45th time on Saturday, March 17.

In honor of this milestone season, the park is offering $19.67 admission to anyone who donates six or more non-perishable food items to MUST Ministries. The price is in honor of 1967,

In addition, the first 1,045 guests on opening day will receive free commemorative tickets to a Six Flags anniversary celebration on June 16.

"We are thrilled to welcome the first guests for our 45th season here at Six Flags Over Georgia," park president Melinda Ashcraft said in a statement.

The park will be open on weekends until May 25, and daily for Spring Break Mar. 31-Apr. 8. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

MARIETTA, Ga. -- Cobb County police have arrested two men in connection with the November 2010 death of a cab driver.
The victim, 23-year-old Ricardo Peter Francois of Powder Springs, was shot to death in his Rayo Taxi service van on November 20, 2010. His body was discovered inside the
...more cab, which was parked in front of a building at the Lincoln Hills apartment complex in Marietta.
In January 2012, police named two suspects in Francois' death.
One of the suspects, 17-year-old Javin Rhashad Andrews of Marietta, was already in jail on unrelated charges when his arrest warrant was secured.
The second suspect, 20-year-old James Levone Mitchell of Columbia, S.C., has been arrested without incident in his hometown. He is now awaiting an extradition hearing to Georgia.
Both Andrews and Mitchell have been charged with murder and aggravated assault.
